Earth - Mars Retrograde 2014 Interactive

Our customer wanted to show an animated Mars Retrograde path, for her "Mars in the Night Sky" section. I was tasked to create the path and the interface. I realized that if Mars was retrograde when viewed from Earth, that Earth would also be retrograde when viewed from Mars. The idea was pitched to our client to show both retrograde paths.
I plotted both Earth and Mars paths as viewed from Pasadena, California and Gale Crater, Mars, by using Stellarium planetarium software. The interface was designed for the user to either play the movement as a movie, or to use the slider to control the movement
