Our customer was not satisfied by the publicity images that were generated from Curiosity's animated movie. She came to me because she wanted to offer the viewer a "sense of wonder", and a feeling of "being there." She felt the original images were not compelling enough to create an emotional connection with the Curiosity spacecraft, and thus the MSL mission.
As I had worked with our customer for a number of years, I understood her aesthetic sensibilities, and "sweetened" the images to match her distinct visual style - to make the images look more friendly, inviting, and "alive".
My customer and the project scientists were very happy with the end results. I created many other publicity images in this set, which were used pre-launch, to create interest in NASA's Mars Science Laboratory Mission.
